This is encouraging news!

Legendary actress Valerie Harper is not in a coma as previously reported, according to the Maine theater company where she was performing.

On Friday afternoon, the Ogunquit Playhouse issued a statement clarifying the 75-year-old’s condition:

“There have been conflicting reports in the media regarding Valerie Harper’s condition after being admitted to the hospital Wednesday evening prior to going on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse. Executive Artistic Director Bradford Kenney has been in direct communication with Valerie’s family from the beginning and can report that Valerie is not, and has never been, in a coma. She is currently enjoying her family’s company while resting at an undisclosed location. Valerie has been loving her time in Ogunquit and is looking forward to getting back on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse.”

Her husband and manager, Tony Cacciotti, reportedly told the theater she is “doing well.”

Valerie fell ill before her evening performance of Nice Work If You Can Get It on Wednesday. She was taken to a local hospital and was reportedly released on Thursday.

Entertainment Tonight published a story Friday morning stating that Valerie was placed in a coma and things “weren’t looking good.” The site did not name their source.

The latest update from Maine fortunately refutes the E.T. report.

The Playhouse has been forwarding hundreds of well wishes to Valerie from audience members and fans. Here’s one more: get well soon, Val!
