The pirates who leaked The Hateful Eight are sorry for their actions — but not THAT sorry!
That’s because Hive-CM insists that illegally leaking the screener copy of Quentin Tarantino‘s Western mystery-thriller will actually HELP ticket sales!

In a statement released on Reddit, the group apologized for the “trouble” of leaking the film online, writing:
“We feel sorry for the trouble we caused by releasing that great movie…We never intended to hurt anyone by doing that, we didn’t know it would get that popular that quickly.”
While singing the film’s praises, the group admitted that they don’t think the producers will lose money because of the leak.
The hackers explained that they created a new type of “media hype” from the film’s illegal release — which they think will be more effective marketing than Star Wars had!
While they’re correct in saying “the promotional costs for this were free,” so is the movie — which, remember, they leaked online. So we’re not sure that these hackers are the cinematic vigilantes they claim to be.

The Hateful Eight was one of several films leaked by the group, which they claim were obtained from “a guy on the street.”
The pirates originally promised to leak 40 movies, but have now confirmed that no other films will be shared before their release date in theaters.
We guess The Hateful Eight taught Hive-CM a valuable lesson about karma. Or revenge? (We’re not sure, as we haven’t watched the illegal screener! LOLz!)
