Gilbert Baker, longtime LGBT activist and the creator of the rainbow flag, has passed away at the age of 65, his good friend Cleve Jones announced on Friday.

Jones took to social media to say:
So devastating.
Our thoughts are with Baker’s family and friends — and we are forever grateful for his amazing and iconic contributions to civil rights.
