This is such a dumb decision — but at least Jazz Jennings got it right!
An elementary school in Wisconsin was all set to read I Am Jazz, the transgender teen’s book, as a group — until they were threatened by a group of parents with a federal lawsuit.

What the what?!
School officials at the Mount Horeb Primary Center sent home a letter to parents a few weeks ago indicating their children would be reading the book as a group to support fellow students who may not identify with one of the two “traditional” genders:
“We have been working with the family of a student on your child’s floor who identifies as a girl, but has a male anatomy. We believe all students deserve respect and support regardless of their gender identity and expression, and the best way to foster that respect and support is through educating students about the issue of being transgender.”
Before the reading could ever take place, a wildly extremist right-wing group called the Liberty Counsel requested the event be called off, and listed a bunch of “harms” that could come to children and families if the reading took place.

Those supposed harms included:
“…necessitating many parents teaching their children about a psychological and moral disorder about which they believe their children are too young to learn, making other children uncomfortable, and confusing many children.”
From there, the Liberty Counsel gave the school a warning that should the reading not be cancelled, the right-wingers would sue the school was actively violating parental rights in federal court.
So how did 15-year-old Jazz respond to all of this?
In a perfectly summed up Facebook post that needed just one word:
“Meanies…”
