The Girl Scouts aren’t afraid to shut down haters. Even haters who throw $100K their way!
Four years ago, the organization announced it is accepting of ALL girls, including transgender members. In May, when the American Family Association tried to ban “boys in skirts” from being scouts, the organization shut it down by reminding them that if a person identifies as a girl, that person is more than welcome among the troops.

Around that time, a donor gave the Girl Scouts of Western Washington $100 thousand, but under one very discriminatory condition:
“Please guarantee that our gift will not be used to support transgender girls. If you can’t, please return the money.”
Council CEO Megan Ferland returned the hefty donation, explaining that there’s no place for intolerance in the organization:
“Girl Scouts is for every girl. And every girl should have the opportunity to be a Girl Scout if she wants to.”
The unfortunate part about sending the money back is that Megan said that it could have given 500 disadvantaged girls the opportunity to go to summer camp.
So, the Girl Scouts of Western Washington started an Indiegogo fundraiser — appropriately titled #ForEveryGirl — to make back the $100k donation they returned.
